Abstract The Presidential Youth Fitness Program: A New Chapter in Youth Fitness Assessment presents an overview of the evolution of fitness testing in youth and a description of the program composition. The video looks at the history of youth fitness testing in the U.S. from 1958, when the emphasis was on motor-skill ability, through the 1980s, when the focus switched to health-related physical fitness. The video also discusses a 2012 Institute of Medicine report that outlines recommendations for physical fitness test items associated with health outcomes in kids. In addition, the video reviews the use of Fitnessgram as the national test battery for the Presidential Youth Fitness Program.
